ثلاثةُ أشياءٍ ففي اثنين منهما

رِضائي وسُخطي في المُثَلَّث منهما

There are three things: in two of them

Lies my contentment; my displeasure lies in the third.

هُما بَردُ يأسٍ أو حلاوةُ نائلٍ

هُما بَردُ يأسٍ أو حلاوةُ نائلٍ

وما أقبح الميعادَ عندي وألأما

وما أقبح الميعادَ عندي وألأما

Those two are the coolness of despair or the sweetness of a gift;

And how ugly I find a promise, and how base!
