    وإنِّيَ فيك لمستبصِرُ

    I tried to bear being without you, but I cannot endure;

    And I am indeed clear-sighted about you.

    And if reason battles passion over you,

    Then there is no doubt that I fall short.

    Win reason's favor, for I see

    it condemning in you what I condemn.

    And humor my passion, for I see

    it forgiving in you what I forgive.

    وأعمَى الهوَى مرةً يبصر

    And that is nothing but blindness in passion;

    Yet one blinded by passion sometimes sees.

    So support my passion against its foe,

    For passion for you is seeking help.

    Otherwise, for what has passed, I am

    turning repentantly to reason, seeking forgiveness.

    O my hope, suppose I were granted no

    hand of yours—could I not have a little finger?
