  1. هل حاكمٌ عدلُ الحكو

    مةِ مُنصفٌ لي من ظَلومِ

    Is there a judge, just in judgment,

    to grant me redress against a cruel wrongdoer?

  2. باتتْ بظاهِرها وسا

    وسُ من حُلِيٍّ كالنجومِ

    All night upon her outward form were whispers

    of jewelry like the stars;

  3. وبباطني منها وسا

    وس من هموم كالخصومِ

    and within me, because of her, were whispers

    of cares like adversaries.

  4. كم بين وسواس الحُلِي

    يِ وبينَ وسواسِ الهمومِ

    How far apart are the whispers of jewelry

    and the whispers of cares!
