    O house of Wahb, will your generosity not restrain

    The persistence of every cloud that pours down rain unceasingly?

    Has the rain sensed weakness in your palms?

    Rather, your palms vied with it and spurred it to excess.

    I likened it to your bounty, when you overwhelmed

    All extravagance and importunity with your munificence.

    علمي بفوز يديه علم عرّاف

    By God, I am not ignorant of what awaits one who hopes in you;

    My knowledge of his hands' success is a soothsayer's knowledge.

    You have made it your work to give wings,

    While Shapur's work of old was to tear out shoulders.

    Who is there to equal you, or who comes close to you

    In spacious courtyards or gentle shelter,

    Or forbearing assemblies or fertile valleys,

    Or fragrant robes or graceful bearing?

    يا آل وهب كفانا فقدكم كافي

    You have spared us calamities beyond compare;

    O house of Wahb, may my Protector spare us the loss of you!

    We ask Time for no gift other than you,

    For you are every gift and every luxury.
