ياO رُبّmany a شوهاءَhideous woman لجوجِpersistent in الزناfornication
يا رُبّ شوهاءَ لجوجِ الزنا
تصطادsnares بالرفقwith gentleness رجالَmen of الفُجورْdebauchery
تصطاد بالرفق رجالَ الفُجورْ
Ah, many a hideous woman, relentless in whoring,
Ah, many a hideous woman, relentless in fornication,
gently ensnares men of depravity.
gently snares men of debauchery.
وكيفand how يغشاهاhave intercourse with her بنوsons of آدمAdam
وكيف يغشاها بنو آدم
والجنُّand the jinn منbecause of تشويههاher deformity فيin نفورْaversion
والجنُّ من تشويهها في نفورْ
Yet how can the sons of Adam lie with her,
And how do the sons of Adam lie with her,
when even the jinn recoil from her deformity?
when the jinn recoil from her deformity?
قالتshe said أياديhands of اللَّهGod مبسوطةٌoutstretched
قالت أيادي اللَّه مبسوطةٌ
وليand I have معاشa livelihood فيin زكاةalms of الأيورْcocks
ولي معاش في زكاة الأيورْ
She says, “God’s hands are outstretched,
She said, "God's hands are outstretched,
and I earn my living from the alms-tax on cocks.
and my livelihood lies in the alms of cocks.
للَّهGod has جيلٌa people كلُّهمall of them صالحٌrighteous
للَّه جيلٌ كلُّهم صالحٌ
يزدرعsows البرgoodness ولوand even if فيin الصخورْthe rocks
يزدرع البر ولو في الصخورْ
By God, all my crowd are righteous men,
God has a people, every one of them righteous,
sowing wheat—even into rock.
who sow goodness even among rocks.
ضمّنتI entrusted سِكْريmy dam وحريقيand my fire الألىthose who
ضمّنت سِكْري وحريقي الألى
هُمthey للحريقfor fire الدهرalways أوor للسكورْfor dams
هُم للحريق الدهر أو للسكورْ
My wine and burning incense are supplied by those
I entrusted my dam and my fire to those
forever devoted to silk or to liquor.
who always attend to fire or dams."
للكحلfor the kohl والغُمرةand the face-paint فيon وجههاher face
للكحل والغُمرة في وجهها
والجُلَّجوناتِand the rouges شهاداتtestimonies of زورْfalsehood
والجُلَّجوناتِ شهادات زورْ
The kohl and rouge upon her face,
The kohl and face-paint upon her face
and her jingling ornaments, are false witnesses.
and the rouges bear false witness.
أعضاؤهاher body parts تدعوcall إلىfor قطعِهاcutting them off
أعضاؤها تدعو إلى قطعِها
كأنهاas though she مخلوقةwere created منfrom بُظورْclitorises
كأنها مخلوقة من بُظورْ
Her limbs themselves cry out to be severed,
Her body parts cry out to be cut off,
as though she had been fashioned from droppings.”
as though she were made of clitorises.
