ما راح مغبونا بصفقة خاسر
منwhoever باعsold متعةَthe enjoyment of فائتٍsomething missed بأمانِfor security
من باع متعةَ فائتٍ بأمانِ
No one comes away cheated in a loser's bargain
who trades the enjoyment of something missed for security.
أمنَis safe امرؤٌa man منfrom رُزءِthe loss of شيءa thing فاتهthat eluded him
أمنَ امرؤٌ من رُزءِ شيء فاته
والمُدركوهand those who attain it مراقبوwatchful for الحدثانtime's calamities
والمُدركوه مراقبو الحدثان
A man is safe from losing a thing that eluded him,
while those who attain it watch for time's calamities.
وكفىand it suffices عزاءًas consolation لامرئٍfor a man عنover فائتٍsomething missed
وكفى عزاءً لامرئٍ عن فائتٍ
أنthat لاnot يخافَhe fears عليهfor it صرفَthe reversals of زمانtime
أن لا يخافَ عليه صرفَ زمان
And solace enough for a man over something missed
is that he need not fear for it the reversals of time.
