By God, what a man Khalid al-Ta’i is,

steadfast in his stance when an argument eludes him!

I debated with him about his arse one day, and said to him:

“Old man, woe to you! Give it a rest, for it is weary.

You have ruined it with the cocks descending upon it.”

He said, “You are wrong! On the contrary, if left idle, it would fall to ruin.

The arse is a house subject to tax: if it is made to pay

outgoings, with no income coming in, then it is ruined.”

So I said, “Have your way!” And one bested in argument admits defeat,

if he is not obstinate when a proof is established.
