غلِطerred الطبيبthe physician عليَّwith me غلطةَthe blunder of مُوردٍone who leads to water
غلِط الطبيب عليَّ غلطةَ مُوردٍ
عجزتْproved incapable مَحالتُهhis skill عنof الإصدارِleading back from water
عجزتْ مَحالتُه عن الإصدارِ
The physician erred with me, like one who leads another to water,
Whose skill proved unable to lead him back.
والناسand people يَلحَونblame الطبيبthe physician وإنماyet in truth
والناس يَلحَون الطبيب وإنما
خطأُthe error of الطبيبthe physician إصابةُthe accurate aim of المقدارfate
خطأُ الطبيب إصابةُ المقدار
And people blame the physician, yet in truth
The physician’s error is fate hitting its mark.
