لَعَمْرُكby your life ماnot الدنياthis world بدارِan abode إقامةٍresidence
لَعَمْرُك ما الدنيا بدارِ إقامةٍ
إذاwhen زالَfalls away عنfrom عينthe eye البصيرthe discerning person غطاؤهاits veil
إذا زالَ عن عين البصير غطاؤها
By your life, this world is no lasting abode,
By your life! This world is not a home for settling down.
When the veil falls from the discerning person's eye.
Once its veil is lifted from the watcher's eye.
وكيفand how بقاءُendurance الناسpeople فيهاin it وإنماand only
وكيف بقاءُ الناس فيها وإنما
يُنالُis attained بأسبابthrough the causes of الفناءperishing بقاؤهاits endurance
يُنالُ بأسباب الفناء بقاؤها
And how can people endure in it, when it is only
How can the people remain in it, when
Through the causes of perishing that its endurance is attained?
Its survival is only through means of its extinction?
