Some people dubbed her a singer,
A group dubbed her a singer
as a scorpion is nicknamed Tamrah (‘Date’) for its beauty.
Like a scorpion, she was dubbed a date
تُجذَرshe is paid (reading uncertain) فلساًa fils (small coin) علىfor الغناءsinging ولاand not
تُجذَر فلساً على الغناء ولا
تسكتshe falls silent إلاunless وجَذرُهاand her fee (reading uncertain) بدْرَهْa large purse of money
تسكت إلا وجَذرُها بدْرَهْ
She is paid a fils for singing, but will not
She takes root, so very poor at singing
fall silent unless her fee is a purseful of money.
Yet she's silent only when the full moon rises
