Congratulations, Abu Hasan, congratulations!

You have reached every pinnacle of virtue.

شركتَ القِردَ في سُخْفٍ وقبح

شركتَ القِردَ في سُخْفٍ وقبح

وما قصَّرْتَ عنه في الحكايهْ

وما قصَّرْتَ عنه في الحكايهْ

You shared the monkey’s foolishness and ugliness,

And did not fall short of it in mimicry.

وكنتَ إذا جريتَ إلى المخازي

وكنتَ إذا جريتَ إلى المخازي

إلى أبويكَ جاوزتَ النهايهْ

إلى أبويكَ جاوزتَ النهايهْ

And whenever you raced toward disgrace—

Toward your parents—you went beyond all bounds.

شَهدتُ بأنَّ من تَنْمَى إليه

شَهدتُ بأنَّ من تَنْمَى إليه

خلافُ أبيك لكنْ كان دايهْ

خلافُ أبيك لكنْ كان دايهْ

I testify that the one to whom your lineage is traced

Is not your father, but was a midwife.

صَححتَ من الخمولِ ألا فصبراً

صَححتَ من الخمولِ ألا فصبراً

ستُرفع رايةٌ لك بعد رايهْ

ستُرفع رايةٌ لك بعد رايهْ

You have recovered from obscurity—now be patient:
