Behold, indeed, praise that has become an adornment

for Surra Man Ra and its inhabitants

is surely more ill-spent than gold with which

an old woman has capped her yellowed teeth.

A land of people—you see its dog

recoil from the character of its human inhabitants.

And but for Abu al-Saqr, they would not be watered

by the channels of the clouds with their pouring rain.
