O you who jealously guard the sheltered from exposure,

And are tenderly concerned lest the afflicted perish,

I am in a state in which my hope

In anyone but God or you is delusion.

With me are past loyalty and

    Praise, and fresh, abundant gratitude.

Ah, what a sacred bond whose sanctuary you have laid open!

And such a bond calls forth a protector's jealous care.

    So aid me—may God aid you—for I

Am in Time's hand, unbound yet captive.

Do not forsake me: you have been especially favored with

Praise from of old, and your merit is renowned.

O brother of justice, and you whose bounty

Is spread among us, and whose good cheer is spread abroad,

Do you think one who withholds from a rightful claimant

His due, despite having the means, is excusable?

It is fitting, when hope rests in you, O one we look to,

That what is hoped for come true, not what is feared.

    وإليك الميسور لا المعسورُ

    Yours are generosity, compassion, and a sense of honor;

And with you lies ease, not hardship.

You do not plead Time as an excuse, nor

Fate: you are Time and Fate.
