The obscurity of truth, when you defend it,

leaves the disputant in the right with few supporters.

Some people's minds stray from the finer points,

so they rule for the broad-brush thinker against the meticulous one.

And before God, Creator of all things,

liars and truth-tellers are all told apart.

And I am never without opponents;

I meet their roughness with gentleness.
