    I saw the broken rudder; its outward appearance

    was terror, yet its interpretation was a good omen of your deliverance.

    A defeat for a house-toppler you had feared,

    and health for you, reviving us through your life.

    For when the word 'sukkān' ('rudder') is reversed,

    its letters spell 'nākis' ('overturner')—no doubt of that.

    So read it as an omen of a disease's overthrow, its strength shattered

    for you by the Sovereign who has always been your protector.

    ففي رُجوعك تبشيرٌ برُجْعاكا

    Let no turning back after firm resolve alarm you;

    for your turning back brings glad tidings of your homecoming.

    وكيف تَمضي ورب الناس يَنهاكا

    You turned back, deterred, when God forbade you;

    and how could you proceed while the Lord of humankind forbids you?

    He restrained you through the wind until He dispelled a misfortune,

    one among misfortunes that was never to befall you.

    وإن ظعنتَ فربُّ الناس يرعاكا

    So if you remain, you will be in ease and repose;

    and if you depart, the Lord of humankind watches over you.

    May you always be, in every deed you undertake,

    blessed at the outset and envied for your outcome.
