وخضراءَAnd a green meadow منfrom حَوكِthe weaving of الربيعspring شهدتهاI beheld it
وخضراءَ من حَوكِ الربيع شهدتها
مغيمةَcloud-veiled شمسsun اليومtoday معهودةَfamiliar الأمسyesterday
مغيمةَ شمس اليوم معهودةَ الأمس
And I beheld a green meadow woven by spring,
Green from the embroidering of spring I saw it
Its sun cloud-veiled today, though familiar from yesterday.
Cloudy sun of today, familiar yesterday
سقاهاwatered it الحياthe rain ثمthen استحارlingered جَهامُهُits rainless cloud
سقاها الحيا ثم استحار جَهامُهُ
عليهاabove it فلمso it did not تظمأgrow thirsty ولمand it did not تَضْحَbe exposed للشمسto the sun
عليها فلم تظمأ ولم تَضْحَ للشمس
The rain watered it, then its spent cloud lingered
The serpent watered it then withdrew stealthily
Above it, so it neither thirsted nor lay exposed to the sun.
It did not thirst nor wilt in the sun
