لم يُبْقِ منها الدهرُ غيرَ صَميمِها
And an orphan, bereft of its vine and its habitual drinker,
A lonely orphan whose generosity and constancy
time has left nothing of it but its pure essence.
Time has left nothing of her but the essence.

في الجو مثلَ شُعاعها ونسيمِها
It grew so subtle that it almost became dispersed
She was so gentle, she almost became commonplace,
in the air, like its radiance and its breeze.
Like her rays and breeze dispersed in the air.

Golden-yellow, the bottle borrows its color,
She takes on the color of a yellow glass,
so molten gold seems to fill its skin.
That you'd think fine dust fills her leather skin.

لسليمها تَشفي سقامَ سقيمِها
A fragrant herb for its drinking companion, an antidote
A myrtle whose wine soothes her companion’s suffering,
for its bitten sufferer; it cures the sickness of its ailing one.
And for her friend it relieves the illness of the sick.
