وعاتقةٍ زُفَّت لنا من قُرى كُوثَى

وعاتقةٍ زُفَّت لنا من قُرى كُوثَى

تُلَقَّبُ أُمَّ الدهر أو بنْتَه الكبرى

تُلَقَّبُ أُمَّ الدهر أو بنْتَه الكبرى

And an aged wine was brought to us as a bride from the villages of Kutha,

A woman of noble descent was brought to us from Kutha's villages

Called the Mother of Time, or its eldest daughter.

She was titled the mother of eternity or its eldest daughter

رأت نارَ إبرَاهيم أيامَ أوقِدتْ

رأت نارَ إبرَاهيم أيامَ أوقِدتْ

وحازت من الأوصافِ أوصافَها الحسنى

وحازت من الأوصافِ أوصافَها الحسنى

She saw Abraham's fire in the days when it was kindled,

She saw the fire of Abraham in the days it was kindled

And acquired the finest of its qualities.

And attained of descriptions their finest qualities

حكت نورها في بَرْدها وسَلامها

حكت نورها في بَرْدها وسَلامها

وباتت بطيبٍ لا يوازَى ولا يُحْكى

وباتت بطيبٍ لا يوازَى ولا يُحْكى

She mirrored its light, with its coolness and peace,

Her light and peace were told in her coolness

And spent the night with a fragrance neither equaled nor imitated.

And she spent the night in unmatched sweet fragrance

عَمَرنا بها الأيام في ظل ماجدٍ

عَمَرنا بها الأيام في ظل ماجدٍ

له الرتبة العلياءُ والمثلُ الأعلى

له الرتبة العلياءُ والمثلُ الأعلى

We enlivened our days with her, in the shade of a noble man,

We lived through her in days of glorious shelter

His are the loftiest rank and the highest ideal.

To him belongs the highest rank and sublime example
