وظلماءَ ما في سُدِّها من خَصَاصةٍ

وظلماءَ ما في سُدِّها من خَصَاصةٍ

لعين ولا فيها لذي الرأي مَحْدِسُ

لعين ولا فيها لذي الرأي مَحْدِسُ

And a pitch-dark night, with no chink in its barrier

The darkness in its obstruction has no property,

For an eye, nor any scope within it for a discerning person's surmise.

No eye, nor in it, to the wise, an observatory.

عفا جُلبُها آي الهدى من سمائها

وغطَّى على أضوائها فهْي طُمَّسُ

Its cloud cover erased the signs of guidance from its sky,

Its heavy clouds have concealed the signs of guidance from its sky,

And veiled its lights, so they were blotted out.

And have obscured its lights, so it is darkened.
