    فقام وفي أجفانِهِ سِنةُ الغَمضِ

    And a handsome cupbearer I summoned for the morning draught;

So he rose, sleep's drowsiness still upon his eyelids.

He circles among us with goblets like stars,

Some shooting downward, and others not.

And the south wind's hands had spread out mantles,

Dark across the sky, yet green upon the earth.

The sky's bow embroiders them with red,

Over green, within yellow, amid white.

Like the hems of a fair maiden approaching in sheer robes,

Dyed in colors, some shorter than others.

Dark nights have left their traces in black tresses:

Gleams of white hair that turn fair women's eyes away.
