طلع الرقَّيُّ في شاشيَّةٍ

طلع الرقَّيُّ في شاشيَّةٍ

وعليه سيفه والمنطقَهْ

وعليه سيفه والمنطقَهْ

Al-Raqqi appeared wearing a cap,

The warrior rode out in his shirt

with his sword and belt upon him.

With his sword and sash upon him

فبدا للناس منه منظرٌ

فبدا للناس منه منظرٌ

عجب سبحان رب خلقه

عجب سبحان رب خلقه

So the people beheld in him a sight

And the people saw in his appearance

most strange—glory to the Lord who created him!

A sight of wonder, glory to his Maker!

إن أكن أبصرت شخصاً مثله

إن أكن أبصرت شخصاً مثله

فثيابي في الجوالي صدقه

فثيابي في الجوالي صدقه

If I have ever seen anyone like him,

If I have seen anyone like him

then let my clothes be alms for the non-Muslim poll-tax payers.

Then truly my clothes are his gift
