ألاAh! أيهذاO you الشيبُgray hair سمعاًheeding وطاعةand obedience
ألا أيهذا الشيبُ سمعاً وطاعة
فأنتfor you المُناويthe adversary ماas far as علمتُI know المظَفّرُthe victorious one
فأنت المُناوي ما علمتُ المظَفّرُ
Ah, O gray hair, I hear and obey!
Oh gray hair, hear and obey
For you are, as far as I know, the victorious adversary.
You are the harbinger, though I knew not, O Muzaffar
أبَىrefused الخِطرthe hair-dye plant والحناءand henna حربَكwar against you إنّهُindeed it
أبَى الخِطر والحناء حربَك إنّهُ
بداbecame clear لهماto both of them لاشكwithout doubt أنْthat سوفwill تظهرyou prevail
بدا لهما لاشك أنْ سوف تظهر
The dye-plant and henna have refused to fight you, for
Danger and henna refused your war
it has become clear to both, beyond doubt, that you will prevail.
It was clear they would appear
إذاif كنتyou are تمحوyou erase صبغةَthe coloring of اللَهGod قادراًable
إذا كنت تمحو صبغةَ اللَه قادراً
فأنتthen you عليover ماwhat يصبغdye الناسpeople أقدرmore able
فأنت علي ما يصبغ الناس أقدر
If you can erase God's coloring,
If you can erase God's dye
then you can all the more erase the coloring people apply.
Then you have more power over what dyes mankind
