لأبي يوسفَ بنتٌ

لأبي يوسفَ بنتٌ

ليتَهُ أُعقِمَ ليتَهْ

ليتَهُ أُعقِمَ ليتَهْ

Abu Yusuf has a daughter.

For Abu Yusuf a daughter was born

If only he had been made sterile—if only!

I wish he was infertile, I wish

تشبه القرد أو الشيْ

تشبه القرد أو الشيْ

طان إن كنتَ رأيتَهْ

طان إن كنتَ رأيتَهْ

She resembles an ape, or the dev-

She resembled a monkey or a devil, if you have seen her

il, if you have seen him.

When one who composes poetry told me

قلت لما سامَنيها

قلت لما سامَنيها

بعضُ من يألفُ بيتَهْ

بعضُ من يألفُ بيتَهْ

I said, when she was offered to me

Some of those who befriend him

by one of those who frequent his house:

Obesity and the daughter of Ya'qub

أَزِناً وابنةَ يعقو

أَزِناً وابنةَ يعقو

بَ أخِنْزيراً ومَيْتَهْ

بَ أخِنْزيراً ومَيْتَهْ

“Fornication—and a daughter of Yaqu-

A pig and its carcass

b? A pig—and carrion?

You have hit the shameful target, if you have hit it

قد رَمَيْتَ الغَرضَ المَرْ

قد رَمَيْتَ الغَرضَ المَرْ

مِيَّ إن كنتَ رميتَهْ

مِيَّ إن كنتَ رميتَهْ

You have indeed shot at the target aim-

ed at, if you have shot at it.”
