أباO father of منذرٍMundhir باللهby God إلاdo, I implore you صدقتنيtell me the truth
علامَon what grounds ولمْand why خَنَّثتنيyou called me effeminate ياO أخاbrother of النضرِal-Nadr
Abu Mundhir, by God, tell me the truth:
Aba Mundhir, I implore you by God, be truthful with me
On what grounds, and why, did you call me effeminate, O brother of al-Nadr?
Why, oh brother of al-Nadr, did you insult me?
أذمَّتْdid she speak ill of لقائيmeeting me حُرمةٌa woman under protection لكof yours نِكتُهاI fucked her
فلمand did not أشفِهاI satisfy her أمْor قلتَyou said ماwhat قلتَyou said بالحزْرby guesswork
Did a woman of yours whom I fucked speak ill of our encounter,
My meeting with you was forbidden, its marks apparent
because I failed to satisfy her, or did you say what you said by guesswork?
So I did not perceive them or did you just guess?
فكيفthen how وألحاظيwhile my glances حِدادٌsharp كأنهاas though they were
نِصالٌblades وألفاظيand my words أشدُّharder منthan الصخرrock
How, then, when my glances are sharp, as though they were
How could I when my glances are mourning as if
blades, and my words are harder than rock?
They were blades and my words harder than rock
وكيفand how وليwhile I have فيin كلevery عضوٍorgan ومَفْصِلٍand joint
وجارحةand limb قلبانtwo hearts شهمانboth valiant منof جمرglowing embers
And how, when I have, in every organ and joint
And how when in each limb and every joint I have
and limb, two valiant hearts of glowing embers?
Two raging hearts of embers
ولوand if عزمتْresolved نفسيmy soul علىupon قطعcrossing لُجّةٍa deep expanse of water
منof البحرِthe sea سبحاًby swimming ماnot نكَلْتُI would recoil عنfrom البحرِthe sea
And were my soul to resolve to cross a deep expanse
And if my soul intended to cross an arm
of the sea by swimming, I would not recoil from the sea.
Of the sea swimming I would not refrain from the sea
ولوand if مسّtouched ثوبيmy garment ثوبَthe garment of أمكyour mother مسّةًa single touch
لأولدهاit would make her bear خمسينfifty مثلَكَlike you فيin شهرa month
And were my garment to touch your mother's garment once,
And if my garment touched the garment of your mother
it would make her bear fifty like you in a month.
I would sire for her fifty like you in a month
فأيَّةُthen which آياتيmy signs وأيُّand which أدلّتيmy proofs
تدلpoint علىto التخنيثeffeminacy ياO ابنson of أبيAbu (father of) عمروAmr
Which of my signs, then, and which of my proofs
So which signs of mine and proofs of mine
point to effeminacy, O son of Abu Amr?
Indicate effeminacy, O son of Abu ‘Amr?
بعينَيْwith the two eyes of ربوخٍa woman who swoons during intercourse فيin استهاher arse أيرُthe cock of نائكٍa fucker
نظرتyou looked ولمand did not تنظرyou look بناظرتَيْwith the two eyes of صقرa falcon
With the eyes of a swooning woman, a fucker's cock in her arse,
With the eyes of a wakeful observant spy
you looked, and not with a falcon's two eyes.
I looked while you did not look with eyes of a falcon
أراكmade you see خلافَthe opposite of الحقِّthe truth رأيٌa judgment بمثلهthrough one like it
كفرتَyou disbelieved وعلّقتand you hung الصليبthe cross علىupon النحرthe upper chest
A judgment made you see the opposite of truth; through one like it
I see you having an opinion unlike the truth
you disbelieved and hung the cross upon your chest.
You blasphemed and hung the cross around your neck
وماnor كانwas منone who لاdoes not يقدرُesteem اللَهَGod قدرَهُHis due worth
ويشفعُهُand pairs Him بابنٍwith a son ليقدرنيto esteem me قدريmy due worth
Nor could one who fails to give God His due
One who does not appreciate God’s worth
and pairs Him with a son give me my due.
And intercedes through a son to empower me
فإنso if كنتَyou are فيin ريبdoubt ولمand have not ترyou see آيةًa sign
تبيِّنُmakes clear ماwhat قدhas لبَّسobscured الشكdoubt منabout أمريmy case
So if you are in doubt and have seen no sign
So if you are in doubt and did not see a sign
that makes clear what doubt has obscured about me,
Clarifying what doubt has confused of my matter
فجرّبْthen test علىon إحدىone of بناتكyour daughters فحلتيmy virility
متىwhenever شئتyou wish فالتجريبfor testing أثلجmore cooling للصدرto the breast
then test my virility on one of your daughters
Then try my strength on one of your daughters
whenever you wish, for testing brings greater coolness to the breast.
Whenever you wish for trying clears the chest
فلوfor if لقيتْنيshe met me بِكْرهنَّthe virgin among them لقاءةًa single encounter
لماwould not نسيتshe forgot أيريmy cock إلىuntil آخرthe end of الدهرtime
For if the virgin among them met me just once,
If she met me as a virgin our meeting
she would not forget my cock until the end of time.
Would never be forgotten till the end of time
