أملي فيه ليأسي قاهرُ

أملي فيه ليأسي قاهرُ

فلذا قلبي عليه صابرُ

My hope in him is that he may come as conqueror;

My hope in him conquers my despair.

and so my heart is not left bewildered over him.

And so my heart is patient with him.

وهو المحسِن والمجمِل بي

وهو المحسِن والمجمِل بي

وأنا الراجي له والشاكر

وأنا الراجي له والشاكر

He is the doer of good, the one gracious toward me,

And he is kind and gracious to me.

and I am the one who hopes in him and gives thanks.

And I am the one who hopes for him and gives thanks.

طرفه يُخبرني عن قلبه

طرفه يُخبرني عن قلبه

أنني يوماً عليه قادر

أنني يوماً عليه قادر

His glance tells me what is in his heart:

His gaze tells me of his heart:

that one day I shall have power over him.
