O Khalid, son of women whose disgraces live forever,
What drove you to earn my satire?

God bless your father—what a ruse,
If it could fool the discerning!

When you saw that your disgrace had become
The talk of riders and assemblies,
عرَّضتَyou exposed للشعراءto the poets عِرْضكyour honor عامداًdeliberately
كيماso that يقالit might be said تَكذُّبُthe lying الشعراءِof the poets
You deliberately exposed your honor to the poets,
So that people might say, "The poets are lying."

Rather, trying to evade what you failed to escape, you were
Like one seeking refuge in flames from scorching sand.

O poet who lampoons Khalid's petty womenfolk,
Leave satire aside; their names are enough for you.

Their names themselves lampoon them, and whoever says
"Viper" describes, beyond doubt, a deaf serpent.

Do not think that in your satire you invent
Any obscenity they have not committed.
