أغثناcome to our aid فأنتfor you are المرءthe man يُهتفis called aloud باسمهby his name
أغثنا فأنت المرء يُهتف باسمه
إذاwhen الأمرthe trouble أضحىhas become آخذاًseizing بالمُخَنَّقِby the throat
إذا الأمر أضحى آخذاً بالمُخَنَّقِ
Come to our aid—you are the man whose name is cried aloud
Come to our aid, for you are the man whose name is cried out
when trouble has closed its grip upon the throat.
When trouble has come to seize us by the throat.
ولاand do not تمطلِkeep waiting الغَصّانthe choking man بالماءfor water إنهfor he
ولا تمطلِ الغَصّان بالماء إنه
متىwhenever يمطلis kept waiting الغصانthe choking man بالماءfor water يزهَقِhe dies
متى يمطل الغصان بالماء يزهَقِ
Do not keep the choking man waiting for water, for
And do not keep the choking man waiting for water, for he,
whenever the choking man is kept from water, he perishes.
Whenever kept waiting for water, will die.
تَكَذَّبَfabricated lies أقوامsome people عليناagainst us وأعلقواand fastened
تَكَذَّبَ أقوام علينا وأعلقوا
مخالبهمtheir claws فيinto لحمناour flesh كلevery مُعلقpoint of attachment
مخالبهم في لحمنا كل مُعلق
Some people fabricated lies against us and fastened
Some people fabricated lies against us and sank
their claws into our flesh, each clinging fast.
Their claws into our flesh at every point.
وصدَّقَهمand believed them منone who قدalready عرفتُI knew مكانهhis standing
وصدَّقَهم من قد عرفتُ مكانه
فمزِّقso it was torn apart مناof us الشلوُthe body كلَّevery ممزقdegree of tearing
فمزِّق منا الشلوُ كلَّ ممزق
And one whose standing you well know believed them,
And one whose standing I knew believed them,
so our very flesh was utterly torn apart.
So our body was torn utterly to shreds.
نحنwe بحالٍin a plight تُذكرreminds المرءthe man فرضَهُhis duty
نحن بحالٍ تُذكر المرء فرضَهُ
لدىbefore كلevery واريsparking الزندthe firestick مثلكlike you مُعرِقof deep-rooted nobility
لدى كل واري الزند مثلك مُعرِق
We are in a plight that reminds a man of his duty—
We are in a plight that reminds a man of his duty,
a man like you, whose fire kindles, noble to the root.
Before every man like you, whose firestick sparks and whose roots are noble.
فلاso do not let يسبقنكoutstrip you السابقونthose who race ahead بكشفهاin relieving it
فلا يسبقنك السابقون بكشفها
فماfor not زلتyou have ceased بالخيراتin good deeds غيرnot مسبَّقoutstripped
فما زلت بالخيرات غير مسبَّق
Do not let those who hasten to help outstrip you in relieving it,
So let not those who race ahead outstrip you in relieving it,
for in good deeds you have never been outstripped.
For you have always been unsurpassed in good deeds.
وماand not لِيَfor me منany قرضٍfavor lent لديكwith you أعُدُّهI count it
وما لِيَ من قرضٍ لديك أعُدُّه
ولكنand yet متىwhenever يحملهbears it طولكyour bounty يلحقit catches up
ولكن متى يحمله طولك يلحق
I have no claim upon you that I can reckon,
And I have no favor owed by you that I can count,
but whenever your bounty shoulders one, it is added to the account.
And yet whenever your bounty bears it, it will catch up.
نعائيmy announcement of death إليكto you النفسthe soul إنif لمnot تُلافِهاyou rescue it
نعائي إليك النفس إن لم تُلافِها
فقدfor already جعلتit has begun بينamid الحيازمthe chest regions ترتقيit rises
فقد جعلت بين الحيازم ترتقي
I announce my soul’s death to you—and if you do not save it,
I announce my soul's death to you, unless you rescue it,
it has already begun to rise within my chest.
For it has begun to rise within the breast.
