فتى على خُبْزه ونائلِهِ
أشفَقُmore anxious منthan والدٍa father علىover ولدِهْhis child
أشفَقُ من والدٍ على ولدِهْ
A young man, over his bread and his bounty,
A young man protective of his bread and food
is more anxious than a father over his child.
More so than a father concerned for his son
رغيفُهhis loaf منهto him حينwhen يُسأَلُهُhe is asked for it
رغيفُه منه حين يُسأَلُهُ
مكانthe place of روحthe soul الجبانthe coward منin relation to جسدِهْhis body
مكان روح الجبان من جسدِهْ
His loaf, when he is asked for it, is to him
His loaf when asked of him
what a coward's soul is to his body.
