مغنيةٌ حقاً بإسقاطِ نقطةٍ
إذاwhen ماan emphatic particle شَدَتْshe sang ظلَّتْshe kept on وأشداقُهاand her jaws تُلْوَىare contorted
إذا ما شَدَتْ ظلَّتْ وأشداقُها تُلْوَى
A true tormentor—a “singer” with one dot removed.
A singer indeed with a dotted mark's fall
Whenever she sings, she carries on with her jaws contorting.
When she pulls, her shadows stretch and her lips twist
لهاshe has نكهةٌbreath odor تحكيshe imitates بهاwith it إنْif تَكَلَّمتْshe spoke
لها نكهةٌ تحكي بها إنْ تَكَلَّمتْ
فأهدتْso she bestowed إلىupon المُشْتَمِّthe sniffer منsome of رِيحهاher odor الفَسْوَىthe fart
فأهدتْ إلى المُشْتَمِّ من رِيحها الفَسْوَى
She has breath with which, when she speaks, she mimics
She has a flavor that tells when she speaks
a fart, gifting some of her stench to whoever sniffs.
She gifted the smeller her stench that decays
إذاwhen شهدتshe attended للقومfor the people فيin اللّهوrevelry مَعرَساًa wedding feast
إذا شهدت للقوم في اللّهو مَعرَساً
غداit became مأتماًa mourning gathering يمحوit erases بأحزانهwith its sorrows اللَّهوىthe revelry
غدا مأتماً يمحو بأحزانه اللَّهوى
Whenever she attends a wedding feast where people revel,
When she testifies for people in playfulness
it becomes a mourning gathering, its sorrows wiping out all revelry.
Tomorrow it's a mourning that erases desires
وإنَّand indeed امرأًa man يقوىhe has the strength علىfor لَثْمِkissing ثَغْرِهاher mouth
وإنَّ امرأً يقوى على لَثْمِ ثَغْرِها
علىfor الضغطthe crushing والتعذيبand the torment فيin قبرهhis grave يقْوَىhe has the strength
على الضغط والتعذيب في قبره يقْوَى
And surely a man who can endure kissing her mouth
A man who can kiss her lips
can endure the crushing and torment in his grave.
Will endure torture and pressure in his grave
جَفَتْgrew bulky هامةٌa head منهاof hers ودُقِّقand was made thin ساقُهاher leg
جَفَتْ هامةٌ منها ودُقِّق ساقُها
فماso not صلحتshe was fit إلاexcept لِبَنْجَقِهاfor her lute’s pegbox مَلْوىa tuning peg
فما صلحت إلا لِبَنْجَقِها مَلْوى
Her head grew bulky, and her leg was made thin;
A protector of hers became dry and thin
so she was fit only as a tuning peg for her lute’s pegbox.
So she's only fit for her twisted pipe
