كماjust as لوif أردناwe wished أنto نُحيلwe turn شبابناour youth
مَشيباًinto gray-haired age ولمand not yet يأنcome due المشيبgray-haired age تعذراwould prove impossible
Just as, if we wished to turn our youth
As if we wanted to turn our youth
into gray-haired age before its time, it would prove impossible,
Into old age before old age was due
كذلكlikewise تُعييناis beyond us إحالةُturning شيبناour gray hair
شباباًinto youth إذاwhen ثوبُthe robe of الشبابyouth تحسراhas slipped away
so too it is beyond us to turn our gray hair
So does appointing old men
into youth, once youth's robe has slipped away.
Turn youth into old age out of regret

وألاand that ... not يكونbe العبدthe servant إلاexcept مدبّراgoverned
God has denied the son of Adam rule over himself,
God refused that the son of Adam arrange
and the servant is to be nothing but governed.
His own affairs, so man cannot arrange
ولاand no صِبغdye إلاexcept صبغُthe dye of منHim who صبغdyed الدجىthe darkness of night

And there is no dye but that of Him who dyed the darkness
No dye but the dye of the one who dyes the night
pitch-black, and the dawn luminous and radiant.
To be dark, while dawn is the most radiant light
