لم يبقَ إلا أن أراك تعتذر

O son of Firas, what are you waiting for?

O son of insight, what do you await?

Nothing remains but for me to see you apologize,

Nothing remains but to see you make excuses

وأن أراني عند ذاك أعتبر

وأن أراني عند ذاك أعتبر

فتسأل الغفران إذ لا أغتفر

فتسأل الغفران إذ لا أغتفر

And to see myself take heed at that point,

And to see myself then show disdain

So you ask forgiveness when I will not forgive.

So you ask forgiveness, since I do not pardon

رُح لي بما أمَّلْت إذ لم تبتكر

رُح لي بما أمَّلْت إذ لم تبتكر

وإن عجزتَ أن تَسُنَّ فافتقر

وإن عجزتَ أن تَسُنَّ فافتقر

Come to me in the afternoon with what I hoped for, since you did not come early.

Go easy on me for what you have hoped, since you did not innovate

And if you cannot set a precedent, then become poor.

And if you are unable to act properly, then admit poverty

أولا فقد خاب رجائي وخسر

والقول يبقى والخطوب تنشمر

Otherwise, my hope has already failed and suffered loss.

My hopes have already failed and loss incurred

And words endure, while calamities pass away.
