The palm tree gently bears its fruit
date palm, once it is planted,
When planted well, its roots take hold
عُقبَىoutcome لهfor it محمودةٌpraiseworthy
عُقبَى له محمودةٌ
إذاwhen تَعالىit grows tall وَرساand takes firm root
إذا تَعالى وَرسا
lies in its praiseworthy outcome
Through time its goodness will endure
when it grows tall and takes firm root.
When feebler trees decay and fold
يَبْقىit endures علىthrough الدهرthe ages إذاwhen
يَبْقى على الدهر إذا
عُودُstem سواهother than it يَبساhas dried up
عُودُ سواه يَبسا
It endures through the ages when
It grows amid the plants and yet
the stem of another has dried up.
Excels them all, the foremost steed
جرىit raced معwith الزرعthe crops إلىtoward الthe
جرى مع الزرع إلى ال
فضلِpreeminence فكانand so it was الفرساthe steed
فضلِ فكان الفرسا
It raced alongside the crops toward
preeminence, and proved to be the steed.
