By your life, men have never secured their rights
By your life, men were not given their rights
As by giving bright swords their due.
As swords were given their razor edges.

And whenever a band would not give us our due,
When rights were not given us, we were a band
We stabbed their kidneys or struck their crowns.
That stabbed and cut the jugular arteries.

We drink with men, without mercy—
We call upon a people for no truce,
Death's morning draught at times, and its evening draught.
At dawn the death rattles or their sobbing.
ولسناand we are not نهرُّwe abhor الموتdeath حتىuntil نذوقهwe taste it

Nor do we abhor death before tasting it;
We do not flee from death until we taste it,
And who abhors a cup before tasting it?
And who would sip the cup without first tasting?

Those who relish injustice have learned that we
The tyrants know that we will scorch
Shall sicken bellies or choke their throats.
Their bellies or their throats will slit.

فإنbut if لجit persists لقَّيناwe repay with عقوقاًunkindness عقوقهاtheir unkindness
We receive men's unkindness in return for kindness;
Cast off by honorable men, if pressed
But if it persists, we repay their unkindness in kind.
We too will cast off, and doubly so.

Forbearance—if an aggressor refuses to befriend us
Patience, when wronged, we will not show,
On that basis, we set up enmity's marketplace.
But for enmity, its path we will open wide.

وهلand do تشبهresemble العيدانthe branches إلاexcept عروقهاtheir roots
We take after our fathers in their refusal to submit;
We take after our fathers in their defiance,
And do branches resemble anything but their roots?
For do not saplings resemble well their roots?

We shall abandon the deeds of ours that vex our foes
Of our deeds we'll leave what was displeasing
When the sun of day abandons its rising.
When the sun abandons the east at its rising.
