ولستُ مُقارعاً جيشاً ولكن

ولستُ مُقارعاً جيشاً ولكن

برأيي يستضيء ذوو القِراعِ

برأيي يستضيء ذوو القِراعِ

And I am not one to fight an army, but

I do not fight armies, but

men of combat find light in my counsel.

with my views I enlighten the armored ones,

وإني للقويُّ على المعالي

وإني للقويُّ على المعالي

وما أنا بالقويِّ على الصِّراعِ

وما أنا بالقويِّ على الصِّراعِ

And I am indeed strong in lofty pursuits,

Though I have the strength for great deeds,

yet I am not strong at wrestling.

I have no strength for conflict.
