بناupon us لاnot بكupon you الشكوthe illness الذيwhich أنتyou واجدُare experiencing
Our beds have shunned us since you fell ill.
Since I complained, estrangement has come between us
May the illness you suffer be ours, not yours.
It is not you, but I who bears this grief

وليسand there is no لهاfor them إلّاexcept بعرفكbecause of your generosity حامدُone who praises
I marvel at Time, whose vicissitudes assail you,
I wonder at a fate which brings you tribulations
Yet none praise them except because of your generosity.
Though only your nobility receives praise
أتهديdo they offer? لكto you الأيامthe days غوْلاًruin وإنماwhile in truth
مساعيكyour deeds فيaround أعناقهنtheir necks قلائدُnecklaces
Do the days offer you ruin, when in truth
Do passing days bring you troubles? Rather
Your deeds are necklaces around their necks?
Your efforts adorn their necks like necklaces

Time falsely charged you with a fault, but found
Fate has charged you wrongly, but could find
No fault in you except that you are noble.
No fault in you save that you are glorious

It will learn, if it does not leave you alone, that it
If it does not refrain from harming you, it will know
Is like one deliberately striking his own eyes.
It hurts itself, though it intends you injury
ولوand if كانit were يدريto know أنthat خلدكyour immortality زينةٌan adornment
لهfor it وجمالٌand beauty ودَّit would wish أنَّكthat you were خالدُimmortal
And if it knew that your immortality was an adornment
If only it knew your eternity embellishes
And beauty for it, it would wish you immortal.
It, and is beauty and love, it would wish you eternal
