وليسand he is not بباقٍlasting ولاnor خالدِimmortal
Isa scrimps on himself,
Jesus imposes austerity on himself
Yet he will neither last nor live forever.
Yet he is neither everlasting nor immortal
فلوso if يستطيعhe could لتقتيرهout of his stinginess
تَنفَّسhe would breathe منthrough منخرٍa nostril واحدِsingle
So if he could, out of his stinginess,
If he could impose more austerity
He would breathe through a single nostril.
He would breathe through only one nostril
عذرناهwe excused him أيامthe days of إعدامهhis poverty
فماso what عذرُexcuse ذيone with بَخَلٍstinginess واجِدِwealthy
We excused him in his days of poverty;
We excused him during his days of execution
But what excuse has a wealthy miser?
Yet what is the excuse of one so miserly and ungenerous?
رَضِيتُI am content لتفريقfor dispersing أموالهhis wealth
يَدَيthe two hands of وارثٍan heir ليسhe is not بالحامدِthankful
For the dispersal of his wealth, I am content with
I would be satisfied with the dispersal of his wealth
The hands of an heir who gives no thanks.
By the hands of an heir who is no eulogizer
