ومعتضدٍand Muʿtaḍid (one strengthened) باللهby God أضحىhas become وربُّهُand his Lord
ومعتضدٍ بالله أضحى وربُّهُ
لهfor him عضدٌa supporting arm يحميهprotects him دوْرthe turning of الدوائِرِmisfortunes
له عضدٌ يحميه دوْر الدوائِرِ
And Muʿtaḍid bi-llāh now has his Lord
With God as his supporter he rises, and his Lord
As a supporting arm, guarding him from the turns of misfortune.
Is a support protecting him through all affairs
إذاwhen كِيدhe is plotted against سراًin secret كيدis plotted against عنهon his behalf عدوهُhis enemy
إذا كِيد سراً كيد عنه عدوهُ
وفيand in بأسهhis might كفءa match لبأسfor the might of المجاهرthe open aggressor
وفي بأسه كفء لبأس المجاهر
When he is secretly plotted against, his foe is plotted against on his behalf,
If a secret scheme is plotted against him by a foe
And his might is a match for the might of the open aggressor.
His might matches the might of those who show their powers
وماand what كيدthe plotting against منone who أضحىhas become لهfor him اللهGod ناصراًa helper
وما كيد من أضحى له الله ناصراً
وعيناًand a watchful eye علىover مستخفياتwhat lies hidden in السرائرinnermost thoughts
وعيناً على مستخفيات السرائر
And what can guile do to one for whom God has become a helper
No scheme can succeed against one whom God aids
And a watchful eye over what lies hidden in innermost thoughts?
And whose eye penetrates the most hidden secrets
ولوand even if لمdid not يخبّرHe informs عنabout عداهُhis foes لخبَّرتْwould surely tell
ولو لم يخبّر عن عداهُ لخبَّرتْ
جوارحُهمtheir limbs عنهمabout them بماof what فيin الضمائرinner hearts
جوارحُهم عنهم بما في الضمائر
And even if He told nothing of his foes, testimony would surely come
Even if his enemies did not inform against themselves
From their limbs, revealing what lies within their hearts.
His own senses would inform him of their inner thoughts
وحُقّand was deemed worthy بنصرof the aid of اللهGod ناصرُthe champion of دينهِHis faith
وحُقّ بنصر الله ناصرُ دينهِ
فأينso where بهwith it عنaway from ناصرa champion وابنand a son of ناصرa champion
فأين به عن ناصر وابن ناصر
And worthy of God's aid is the champion of His faith;
Worthy indeed of God's aid is the defender of His cause
So how could that aid pass by a champion and a champion's son?
Where can the defender be but the son of defenders?
إذاwhen حاولtry الأعداءُthe enemies أنto يمكرواplot بهagainst him
إذا حاول الأعداءُ أن يمكروا به
أحالturns back عليهمupon them مكرهمtheir scheming خيرُthe best ماكرschemer
أحال عليهم مكرهم خيرُ ماكر
When the enemies try to plot against him,
If enemies try to plot and deceive against him
The best of schemers turns their scheming back upon them.
He turns their tricks back on them, an excellent plotter
