إذاwhenever جئتُI come أشكوI lament ماwhat بقلبيin my heart منof الأسىsorrow
إلىto مؤنسيmy comforter أبدىhe shows القلىaversion وتغضَّباand grows angry
Whenever I come to lament the sorrow in my heart
When I come to complain of the sorrow in my heart
To my comforter, he shows aversion and grows angry.
To my eternal heart's companion, and he gets angry,
وأظهرand he shows ليto me بعدafter الوصالِthe union تجنِّياًgroundless reproach
فأصبرُso I endure خوفاًout of fear منهُof him أنthat يتجنَّباhe turns away
And after our union, he reproaches me without cause,
And shows scorn after reunion,
So I endure, afraid that he will shun me.
I am patient out of fear he will shun me.
وأكتُمُهand I conceal from him وجديmy passion وأُجملُand I temper صبوتيmy yearning
وأخضعand I humble myself كيso that يرضىhe is pleased وإنeven though كانhe is مذنباat fault
And I hide my passion from him and temper my yearning,
I conceal my passion, restrain my tears,
And humble myself to please him, though he is at fault.
And act meekly so he'll be pleased, though he's to blame.
وفيand in القلبِthe heart نارٌa fire منfrom تخوُّفfear of غدرِهِhis betrayal
تزيدُit increases علىwith مرّthe passing of اللياليthe nights تلهُّباin blazing intensity
And in my heart is a fire born of fear of his betrayal,
Yet in my heart there's a fire, sparked by dread of his betrayal,
That blazes ever more fiercely as the nights pass.
Growing fiercer as the nights pass, a flare of flames.
