هاجرْتُ عنك إلى الرجا

هاجرْتُ عنك إلى الرجا

لِ فكان عُرْفُهُمُ كنُكرِكْ

لِ فكان عُرْفُهُمُ كنُكرِكْ

I left you for other men—

I migrated from you to the Bedouins

and their kindness was like your unkindness.

So their familiarity was like your estrangement

فرجَعَتُ مِنْ كَثَبٍ إلي

فرجَعَتُ مِنْ كَثَبٍ إلي

كَ مُفرِّغاً نفسي لشُكرِكْ

كَ مُفرِّغاً نفسي لشُكرِكْ

So I returned from close by to

So I returned from a jump to you

you, devoting myself wholly to thanking you.

Like one unburdening myself to thank you

ولما أرُومُ بما أقو

ولما أرُومُ بما أقو

لُ زيادةً في رفع ذِكركْ

لُ زيادةً في رفع ذِكركْ

Nor do I seek, through what I say,

And when I intend with what I say

any further elevation of your renown.

To add to raising your mention

لكِنَّهُ حقٌّ أوَّف

لكِنَّهُ حقٌّ أوَّف

فيهِ عوانَكَ بعْدَ بِكْرِكْ

فيهِ عوانَكَ بعْدَ بِكْرِكْ

But it is a debt; I repay

But it is true that I obliged

it for your renewed bounty, after your first.

In it your help after your early morning

كم نعمةٍ لك ملء فِكْ

كم نعمةٍ لك ملء فِكْ

رِي لا تُلاحِظها بفِكْرِكْ

رِي لا تُلاحِظها بفِكْرِكْ

How many blessings of yours fill my

How many blessings from you filled my thoughts

mind, yet you give them no thought.

That you don't notice with your thinking
