أغضَىturned a blind eye أبوAbu (father of) بكرBakr علىto الهونِhumiliation
أغضَى أبو بكر على الهونِ
كأَنَّهُas though he ليسَis not يبالينِيheeding me
كأَنَّهُ ليسَ يبالينِي
Abu Bakr turned a blind eye to humiliation,
Abu Bakr turned a blind eye to insults
As though he paid me no heed.
As if he did not care for me
ياO ابنson of حُرَيْثٍHurayth هذهِthis حِيلةٌa trick
يا ابن حُرَيْثٍ هذهِ حِيلةٌ
يحتالهاemploys it as a ruse بعضُsome of المجانينِthe madmen
يحتالها بعضُ المجانينِ
O son of Hurayth, this is a trick
O son of Hurayth, this is a trick
That some madmen employ:
That some insane people use
إذاwhen رأىhe sees الصبيانَthe boys يَرْمونهthey pelt him
إذا رأى الصبيانَ يَرْمونه
دارَاهُمُhe humors them بالرِّفْقِwith gentleness واللِّينand mildness
دارَاهُمُ بالرِّفْقِ واللِّين
When one sees the boys pelting him,
When he saw the youths throwing stones at him
He humors them with gentleness and mildness,
He dealt with them gently and kindly
كأَنَّهas though he ليسis not يُبَاليهمُheeding them
كأَنَّه ليس يُبَاليهمُ
وعندهand he has ماsomething that ليسis not بالدُّونtrifling
وعنده ما ليس بالدُّون
As though he pays them no heed,
As if their actions did not bother him
Yet what he harbors is no small thing.
Though he is beyond such baseness
أُمِّيmy mother إذاًthen أمُّكyour mother إنif لمnot تكنyou are
أُمِّي إذاً أمُّك إن لم تكن
منيbecause of me علىon مثلِthe like of الطَّياجينfrying pans
مني على مثلِ الطَّياجين
Then my mother is your mother, if you are not
Then your mother is my mother, if you are not
On something like frying pans because of me.
Like me, enduring people's hurts
فلاso do not تخادِعْنيtry to deceive me فلستَfor you are not الذيthe one who
فلا تخادِعْني فلستَ الذي
يخدعُdeceives إخوانَthe brethren of الشياطينdevils
يخدعُ إخوانَ الشياطين
So do not try to deceive me, for you are not one
So do not deceive me, for you are not one
Who can deceive the brethren of devils.
