أباO father of إسحاقَIshaq لاdo not تغضبgrow angry فأرضَىlest I be content
بعفوكwith your pardon دونinstead of مأمولthe hoped-for الثوابِreward
O Abu Ishaq, do not grow angry, lest I be content
O Abu Ishaq, do not be angry, so I may be pleased
with your pardon instead of the hoped-for reward.
With your pardon, without hope of reward
أُعيذكI would spare you أنthat يقولsay لكto you المرجِّيthe hopeful one
رضيتُI was content منfrom الغنيمةthe spoils بالإيابِwith returning
I would spare you the hopeful one's saying to you:
I implore you not to say to the hopeful one:
"I was content with returning instead of spoils."
“I was content with the booty with just the return”

Is ill opinion of my father's and mother's son
The worst opinion about the son of my father and mother
my share of your lavish gifts?
Is my share of your generous gifts

Yet the young man committed no offense
Yet the youth committed no sin against you
against you, nor departed from the path of right.
Nor transgressed the ways of right

Lend him your attention and understanding;
Give him from you a listening ear and understanding
his excuse will shine for you with a shooting star's light.
That will shed light on his excuse like a flaming meteor

And suppose he committed all the people's sins—
And grant him as gifts the sins of the people absolved

Was he not protected from punishment, veiled?

You decided he deserves punishment—

Was he not safe from your reproach and penalty?

Are you content that an erring man's lapse
Will you be satisfied if the howl of a complainer
should shake the mountain of your forbearance, with its heights?
Shakes the firmness of your patience, so lofty?

Pardon my brother and the twin of my soul;
Excuse my brother and the soul so close to me
for my side has been restless since you reproached him.
So spare me, since you blamed him, of fang

I marveled at him and myself: we had hoped for
I am astonished at him and me, that we hoped
a sky from you whose clouds would pour down rain.
For a heaven from you, with pouring clouds

But it disappointed our hopes and poured
But you denied what we hoped for, and poured down
upon us, from you, the thunderbolt of torment.
Upon us from you the thunderbolt of torment

Yet we hope for a return from you
Yet still we hope for a return from you
with your bounty, and a yielding to reproach.
With your grace, and forebearance of reproach

And you have no escape from that, for I
You have no course but this, for I and you
and you share the same standing in lineage.
Are in a position of authority and justice
