You would see a falconer with a raven,
You'd think you saw a raven, not a youth

With those who find wormwood too bitter to quaff
Hates drinking zaqqūm, you yourself deserve reproach.
You tax me, sir, with your reproof

Between me and Qays there is no reproach,
No quarrel lies 'twixt Qais and I
Save stabbing the kidneys and striking necks.
Save that you pierce us kidneys and napes with grief

Do not oppress us with such cruel fates
