سيُلحقُ أُخرى ثمودٍ ثمودا
O man of Thaqif, I see you as the one
O Thaqifite, I see you are one who
who will make the latter Thamud follow Thamud.
Will meet the same fate as (the tribe of) Thamud met Thamud.

A wicked tribe whom God struck
An evil tribe, God struck them
with a thunderbolt that left them lifeless.
With thunderbolts that left them annihilated.

It struck them and annihilated them,
It befell them and destroyed them
save a few it took for monkeys.
Save a few whom it reckoned as apes.

No arrow shot by God goes astray
by God, save a scant, paltry few.
Except a few paltry ones.

Spears from me that will shred iron.

yet how can a wayward man be rightly guided?
Or how can one lost come aright?

Will wretchedly afflict ancestors and prosper forebears.

And for that reason the stars move,
For that the stars alternate,

Now inauspiciously, now prosperously.

And whenever a vile man satirized me,
Whenever the base attacked me
I burdened him with my satire’s steep ascent.
I overwhelmed them with my ascent.
