يهزم صفَّين من القمْلِ
And a horseman—as fine a horseman as you could wish—
A knight of your choice, victor over two ranks of spears,
He routs two ranks of lice.
When he charges amidst the army, makes them self-sufficient.

ضريطُهُ جُبناً عن الطَّبْلِ
When he marches by night with the army, they are spared
His shrieking makes the cowardly flee from drums,
The need for the drum by his farting out of cowardice.
While his daring causes him to neglect his own safety

منfrom هوجٍrashness فيهwithin him ومنand from خبلِmadness
من هوجٍ فيه ومن خبلِ
His boldness is his casting caution aside,
Amidst the melee.
From the rashness within him and from madness.
He turns and takes flight in sudden panic,

He grows cross-eyed or deranged from yellow pallor,
Until you see him has lost his senses.
Until you see him bereft of reason.
He tries throughout his life to cast off his cowardice,

From cowardice he is in death throes all his life,
But alas, he does so slowly.
But his dying takes its time.
