وإنيand indeed I لذوsurely possessing حلفan oath حاضرٍready at hand
وإني لذو حلف حاضرٍ
إذاwhen ماemphatic particle اضطررتI am compelled وفيand in الحالthe circumstances ضيقُconstraint
إذا ما اضطررت وفي الحال ضيقُ
And indeed I have an oath ready at hand,
I swear a ready oath,
when I am compelled and circumstances are straitened.
When pressed and straitened instantly,
وهلand is there منany جناحblame علىupon مرهَقٍa hard-pressed man
وهل من جناح على مرهَقٍ
يدافعhe wards off باللهby God (in an oath) ماwhat لاnot يطيقُhe can bear
يدافع بالله ما لا يطيقُ
And is there any blame upon a hard-pressed man
Is there any blame upon one sorely tried,
who wards off, by swearing by God, what he cannot bear?
Who defends with Allah what he cannot bear?
