أشارتْ بالخضاب إلى الخضابِ
كناظرةٍlike a woman gazing إلىat شيءٍsomething عُجابِwondrous
كناظرةٍ إلى شيءٍ عُجابِ
She pointed with the dye to the dye,
With henna she gestured towards henna
Like a woman gazing at something wondrous.
As one who beholds something wondrous
وكنِّand they were (likely intended) غرائراًnaïve women إلّاexcept بشيبٍconcerning gray hair
وكنِّ غرائراً إلّا بشيبٍ
يُخيِّلُهُmakes it seem المُخَيِّلُthe deceiver بالشبابِlike youth
يُخيِّلُهُ المُخَيِّلُ بالشبابِ
And they were naïve, except about gray hair,
And let loose your braids, except for some white hairs
Which the deceiver makes seem like youth.
