I have a tongue that has never ceased praising you in prose

And in verse, without ever resting.

And the debts that ride upon me in your shadow

Lampoon you with an eloquent tongue.

And gracious punishment from you for that

Is fitting, rather than ugly punishment.

And it is that people should see me only

In a spacious realm of affluence.

Would that I knew: if my ailment is not dispelled by your generosity

And fortune, is there anything that can dispel it?

Indeed, part of your injustice, which sorely torments strength

And patience with the utmost torment,

Is that you deem kindness to one like me a wrong,

While I regard praise of you as akin to glorifying God.
