تَبَجَّحتُI exulted عِندَat المَوتِdeath وَالمَوتُand death بُغيَتيmy desire
وَلَوeven though كُنتُI was هَتّاكاًa flagrant violator لِماof what اللَهُGod حَرَّماforbade
I exulted at death, and death is my desire,
I boasted when facing death, and death is my wish,
even though I was a flagrant violator of what God forbade.
If I were a sinner, I would not do what God has forbidden,
وَطابَتand was gladdened بِهاby it نَفسيmy soul لِأَنّيbecause I قادِمٌcoming
عَلىto خَيرٍthe best مَقدومٍone approached عَلَيهِto Him وَأَكرَماand the most generous
And my soul was gladdened by it, for I am coming
And my soul is delighted that I am headed,
to the best and most generous One to whom one may come.
Towards the best of predetermined good things and the most generous,
عَسىmay غافِرُthe Forgiver الزَّلّاتِmissteps يَغفِرُforgive زَلَّتيmy misstep
وَيَستُرُand conceal أَوزاريmy sins وَماand what قَدalready تَقَدَّماhas gone before
May the Forgiver of missteps forgive my misstep
May He who forgives sins and slips forgive my slip,
and conceal my sins and what has gone before.
And veil my burdens and whatever sins came before.
