حتىuntil كأَنَّas though الدَّهْرَTime حَيَّرنيbewildered me بهthrough him
حتى كأَنَّ الدَّهْرَ حَيَّرني به
فيin مثلِthe like of ماwhat أَهواهُI desire it أَوor منَّانيfilled me with hopes
في مثلِ ما أَهواهُ أَو منَّاني
Until it seemed that Time had bewildered me through him,
As if time itself had confused me with it,
With things like those I desire—or had filled me with hopes.
In the likes of what I desired or what gifted me,
فطلبتُso I asked for فوقbeyond مُنايَmy wishes لاto (joined in sense to the next token) ستعجازِهِprove him incapable
فطلبتُ فوق مُنايَ لا ستعجازِهِ
فأَتىthen he came بمعجِزَةٍwith a miracle مِنَfrom المَنَّانِthe Bestower
فأَتى بمعجِزَةٍ مِنَ المَنَّانِ
So I asked beyond my wishes, to prove him incapable;
So I sought above my bedrest no eloquence for it,
Then he came with a miracle from the Bestower.
And it came with a miracle from the Bestower.
