Thinking about sustenance—how it comes—
Thoughts of sustenance and how it comes
Is something that wearies hearts.
With toil do hearts become encumbered

وحاملُ الهمّ ذو دُعاءٍ

في علم ما تحجُبُ الغيوبُ
And one who bears worry makes supplication
The one bearing worries offers prayer
For knowledge of what the unseen conceals.
In knowing what veils conceal from view

So if calamities befall you,
If troubles should afflict and trials knock
Or misfortunes knock at your door,
To test your mettle, strength of heart

Then shun people and call upon Him
Then turn aside from people, and supplicate
Through whom alone afflictions are relieved.
To Him alone relief is given

وسائلُ الله لا يَخيبُ
Whoever asks people is denied by them,
Whoever asks of people will be refused
And one who asks God is not disappointed.
But seeking from God will not disappoint
